Adityapur-based NIT will host a national-level competition on designing single-seater four-wheelers from January 24 to 26 next year.
The event titled Delta Shootout will provide a platform to budding mechanical engineers to showcase their talent in designing automobiles.
The three-day event, which will be a relatively fresh concept in this part of the country, will be jointly organised by Delta Inc. and AMEXIS Professionals Pvt. Ltd.
NIT faculty Sanjay Kumar, who is also an expert on motorsports, said that they would leave no stone unturned to make the event a success. “Students from over 80 engineering colleges from across the country will participate in the event,” he added.
While NIT will be the institutional partner for the event, Adityapur Auto Cluster Limited will be the industrial partner. The auto cluster also plans to organise an exhibition of MSMEs during the event.
R.K. Sinha, managing director of Adityapur Auto Cluster Limited, said that east India had a rich tradition of motor racing and the event would further promote the discipline.
“The vehicles will have to be designed based on certain specifications. During the event, a four-hour endurance test will be conducted on the vehicle prototypes. An all-terrain track will be developed for this,” he said, adding that the track will have dirt roads, slushy stretches and sandpits.
Delta Inc. partner Sourabh Chowdhury said that they had been following such events organised across the country over the past few years. “They generate huge interest among future engineers besides giving them an opportunity to nurture their skills.”
