A realtor was allegedly chased, assaulted and shot at by a group of four on Saturday night in the Park Circus area.
In a complaint lodged with Karaya police station, realtor Tanveer Riaz alleged that the attack might have been masterminded by a business rival. He suffered an injury on his forehead which police said was caused by a razor.
In his complaint, Tanveer stated that he had been shot at while he was returning home to Topsia from Chandni Chawk around 10pm. “I boarded an autorickshaw on my way to Park Circus. Near a bar on Elliot Road, four youths intercepted the auto and dragged me out. They started beating me up but I managed to free myself and started running. I took a taxi near Nonapukur tram depot,” Tanveer said on Sunday.
“As the taxi reached near the No. 4 bridge in Park Circus, the same group intercepted it. Again I was dragged out and thrashed. One of them took out a firearm and fired at me. I was lucky as the bullet grazed my forehead,” claimed Tanveer.
He said the youths fled and he rushed to Karaya police station.
“He (Tanveer) came to the police station around 11pm and narrated the incident,” said an officer. “We wanted to take him to Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital for a test but he said he would get the test done in a private healthcare unit,” said the officer. He was finally taken to NRS Medical College and Hospital.
According to the police, the doctors said the injury on Tanveer’s forehead was not caused by a bullet. “The nature of the wound suggested that it was caused by a sharp weapon,” said another officer working on the case.
