New Delhi: The controversy over the selection of boxing squad for the World championship in Kazakhstan took a serious turn on Friday, when the government decided to look into the matter.
“What has been happening in Patiala over the selection trials is disturbing. The sports ministry has asked the Sports Authority of India (SAI) to submit a report on the issue,” a senior ministry official said. “The ministry would decide its next course of action after receiving the report,” he added.
The Indian Boxing Federation (IBF), which is currently under suspension for manipulating its elections last year, however, indicated that it would take strong action against the three boxers, who alleged the selection committee members were bribed and the trials were fixed. The charges were levelled by Dinesh Kumar, Dilbag Singh and Praveen Kumar.
