Purulia, Aug. 30: The teacher-in-charge of a Purulia college today said he had posted his resignation to the governing body, unable to take “insults” from a section of part-time teachers he had “tried to discipline”.
“A section of part-time teachers are irregular and do not take classes properly. When I tried to discipline them, they abused me,” said Ashis Kumar Nayek, the teacher-in-charge of Bikram Tudu Memorial College in Barabazar, about 30km from Purulia town.
Nayek alleged that when he brought this to the notice of the college’s government representative, Chandan Singh Malla, he supported the part-time teachers.
Malla said the part-time teachers had complained to him that Nayek had misbehaved with them. “They told me Nayek slapped two of them,” said Malla, also the president of the Trinamul Youth Congress in Barabazar.
Minister and district Trinamul chief Santiram Mahato, also the president of the college governing body, said he was yet to receive the resignation.
