Visakhapatnam: Luke Ronchi smashed a breezy 125 as New Zealand A posted a somewhat respectable 310 on the second day of the first tour match, at the Port Trust Diamond Jubilee Stadium, in Visakhapatnam, on Thursday.
Todd Astle, who scored 63 shared a crucial 146-run partnership with Ronchi for the seventh wicket. Jalaj Saxena claimed six wickets for 106 runs. At stumps, India A were six for one, having lost Unmukt Chand.
A result, though, is unlikely as Day I of this three-day affair was washed out due to rain.
However, a dominating performance would surely add to the confidence of the visitors and buoy them further for the rest of the tour.
As the match finally got underway on Thursday, New Zealand A won the toss and opted to bat. But they were in trouble right away as India A bowlers, led by Jalaj Saxena (six for 106), cleaned up the top order to reduce New Zealand A to 55 for four.
But Neesham couldn’t last longer and fell to Rakesh Dhurv, while Saxena picked up wicket-keeper Derek de Boorder soon after .
