Guwahati, Aug. 29: Defending champions NF Railway tasted their first defeat in the ongoing Abhishek Motors RG Trophy Guwahati Super Division Football League, going down to a spirited Dynamo Club 2-3 at the Nehru Stadium here today.
Trailing by two goals till the lemon break, Dynamo came back strongly in the second half to bring an end to the defending champions’ five-match winning streak.
NF Railway took an early lead with striker Chayaram Basumatary scoring in the second minute. Their second goal came after a penalty kick was awarded in the 30th minute as Nigerian recruit Onyeama Francis obstructed Duleswar Rabha inside the box. Sibra Narzary made no mistake from the spot.
Dynamo got their equaliser in the 67th minute through Francis. The team continued repeated attacks on the NFR goal and got the winner in the 86th minute through Somnath Chakraborty.
Assam Police Blues will meet Assam State Electricity Board SC tomorrow.
‘A’ Division: In the Jibeswar Goswami Guwahati First Division League, Rising XI got the better of Maharana Athletic Club 3-2. Wilson Dewri scored a brace for Rising XI in the 31st and 74th minutes while Rajesh Rabha scored the other goal in the 54th minute.
For Maharana AC, N. Surjit Singh scored in the 70th and 88th minutes.
Regarding the SAI and Rajbari AC match which had to be abandoned owing to on-field violence on Tuesday, GSA general secretary Ibocha Singh said, “Rajbari have been awarded three points after SAI refused to continue. However, none of the teams will be able to play any tournament till the disciplinary committee decides on the matter. According to AIFF regulations, SAI will also have to pay a fine.”
Ganga SC will meet City Police in a crunch match tomorrow to decide the winners of the league.
