Hazaribagh, Aug. 29: Two persons, including a policeman, were arrested today in connection with the August 19 murder of Shahpur mukhiya Tapeshwar Sao.
Constable Jaganath Sao, alias Prashant, was picked up from Tilaiya in Koderma, while Ravindra Sharma was nabbed from Pathalgadha in Chatra district.
DSP (sadar) Arvind Kumar Singh said: “Prashant is posted at Tilaiya police station.”
According to sources, police kept a tab on Prashant’s cellphone, the call details of which led to the arrests.
Prashant, who earlier had links with rebels, started working as a police informer and was later inducted in the force during the tenure of former Hazaribagh SP Praveen Singh.
However, going by the property he has amassed — he owns five cars, 18 trucks, a palatial house at posh Shiv Dayal Nagar in town and a plot in Kadma — it is clear he takes levy from illegal crusher units at Ichak and Padma as well as from rebel outfits in exchange for information about police movements.
Mukhiya Sao was found dead about 2km from his home at Shahpur. His face was smashed with a hard object.
