Golaghat, Aug. 28: Gone are the days when hardcore movie buffs resorted to fisticuffs to get hold of the last ticket and “house-full” signs got worn with use. Now, even a “superhit” runs in partly empty theatres.
In this scenario, where the biggest worry for Assamese movie producers is breaking even investment-wise, a group of youths from this small Upper Assam town has decided to do something different — take their movie to the audience in every nook and corner of the state.
Bhal Pabo Najanilo, which will premiere at the district library auditorium here on September 17, 18 and 19, will start its pan-Assam journey on September 20 and be screened the old-fashioned way — using a projector and a white screen — in places without cinema halls.
Talking to The Telegraph, the movie’s producer-director, Rhituraj Dutta, who came up with the unique idea, said, “Like bhramyoman (mobile) theatre, we will travel to different parts of the state — even the remotest corners — to screen our movie so that it reaches the maximum number of viewers.”
“Everybody is crying for mini cinema halls. But I don’t think it will solve the problem, as these halls will not restrict themselves to Assamese movies,” Dutta added.
As the name suggests, Bhal Pabo Najanilo (Didn’t learn how to love) will be a love story. According to Dutta, however, the movie is not just a love story; it also tries to portray various aspects reflecting the mindset of today’s youth.
Produced under the banner of Rhiturong Multimedia and cinematographed and edited by Prithviraj Dutta and Gaurav Bania respectively, the movie’s title track, Xuoroni Kuwoli, rendered by Papon, is already a hit.
The cast includes the lead pair of Dhyanjyoti Bora and Ananya Kashyap, along with Moloya Goswami, Minu Bania, Bidyut Chakravorty, Arun Hazarika, Ajit Barua, Anupjyoti Choudhury, Sirajul Hussain, Durgadhar Neog, Jeena Barua, Prasanna Sarma, Rakhi Saikia, Polash Loeng and Asif Javed.
Popular singer Zubeen Garg has also done a cameo in the movie and sung a few tracks along with Dikshu and Priyanka Bharali.
