Guwahati, Aug. 28: Ravikant Tiwary claimed the title in the fourth edition of the GTC Chess Grand Prix held at Gauhati Town Club premises here today.
Tiwary tallied six points from seven rounds to lift the title for the second time in the 12-edition tournament.
Though Abhilekh Mahanta, Amlan Mahanta and Tridev Buragohain also scored six points each, they finished second to fourth respectively on the basis of tiebreak scores.
Uddipta Kakati and Nitish Das tallied 5.5 points each to be placed fifth and sixth respectively while Prachurjya Gayan, Simran Ahmed, Abhilash Gautam and Kaustav Lahiri emerged seventh to 10th respectively with five points.
Chinkhei Singh tallied a perfect six from six rounds to lift the open category title while Y. Dhanabir Singh scored 4.5 points for the second spot and Chiraranjan Bhuyan finished third with four points. A total of 16 players participated in the category. Prateeti Baruah, Rishita Sinha and Jenifa Islam were named the top three girls in the tournament.
Altogether 60 players took part in the Grand Prix event.
