Shillong, Aug. 28: A Meghalaya government official was today booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 after he was allegedly caught red-handed while taking a bribe .
According to East Khasi Hills district police, Ropsil Lamare, joint director (mechanical) of the directorate of agriculture, was caught by sleuths of the special cell while he was allegedly taking money from officials of a private firm M/s Horizon Marketing, Tura.
Police said Lamare had demanded Rs 5,000 in cash for each power tiller from the private firm.
Acting of a tip-off, a trap was laid and police said the official was today caught taking Rs 1 lakh in cash. He had also allegedly demanded another Rs 2 lakh to be paid to him by Monday.
Lamare was subsequently arrested and booked under the relevant sections of the act.
