Durgapur, Aug. 28: A Trinamul leader set ablaze in Burdwan tonight ran 200 metres to a police outpost tonight, where he was wrapped in blankets and rescued.
Tarun Banerjee, 32, who had written to the chief minister recently about local partymen’s alleged involvement in illegal activities, was attacked by four men in Jamuria near Asansol around 10 tonight. They doused him in kerosene and set him ablaze.
The police took Tarun to Asansol district hospital, 20km from the outpost. Doctors said he had suffered 80 per cent burns and was “critical”.
Tarun had mentioned four Trinamul activists in his complaint to the chief minister.
