Kohima, Aug. 26: Ten cadres of the NSCNís Khole-Kitovi group and four of the Khaplang group were apprehended in a joint operation in Nagalandís Tuensang town early this morning.
Altogether 11 weapons, 337 rounds of ammunition, explosives, radio sets, fake currency notes of Rs 1.66 lakh and incriminating documents, including tax collection receipts, were recovered.
Troops of 23 Assam Rifles along with two representatives of Nagaland police carried out the operation based on specific intelligence inputs on the presence of armed militants in the town.
According to the information received, these cadres were involved in extortion, illegal tax-collection and recruitment of youths in Tuensang district.
The intelligence reports said the cadres were planning to cause disturbance in view of the byelection in Noksen constituency on September 4.
The cadres were handed over to Tuensang police.
In Zunheboto district, troops from 21 Assam Rifles apprehended two NSCN (K-K) cadres from Old Natha village, averting a plot of inter-factional clash.
