Shillong, Aug. 26: Veteran journalist Suraj Joshi, who specialised in sports reporting, died at his residence in Laitumkhrah last evening.
His body was cremated this afternoon at Mawprem. In his forties, Joshi is survived by his wife and two children.
Joshi’s death has shocked many within and outside the media fraternity.
At a condolence meeting organised at Shillong Press Club this afternoon, media professionals and others recollected Joshi’s contribution to journalism in this city through his varied reportage, especially those pertaining to sports.
Having started his career in 1989 with Khasi newspaper Pateng Mynta, Joshi went on to work for several other newspapers here.
He contributed to the news bulletin of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and local dailies relied on him during the I-League season.
Before being recently appointed as media manager of Rangdajied Football Club, he was the founding member and associate editor of the portal www.ohmeghalaya.com.
