Imphal, Aug. 26: Youth Organisation Sporting Club blanked Youth Welfare Club, Thambalkhong by 3-0 goals in the Maharajkumar Ghanendrajit Memorial Super Division Football League Tournament 2013 played at artificial football turf, Khuman Lampak sports complex, today.
The win pushed Youth Organisation to a team total of 10 points while Youth Welfare Club is placed at the bottom of the table with one point after six matches.
In a rain-reduced 35-minute match, Youth Organisation Sporting Club struck just before the first half whistle with L. Bharat Singh striking the opening goal for the lead. Youth Welfare Club seemed resigned to their fate, as they never got any real chances in the match.
The Youth Organisation Sporting Club surged ahead as Worchupui slammed home his teamís second goal in the 53rd minute. He later came up with the teamís third goal in the injury time of 70th minute to romp home for the victory.
The second match, featuring Citizen Club and Khetri Iril Mapal Youth Club, was abandoned due to heavy rain.
Table tennis: Y. Dinesh won the menís singles title of the State Open Ranking Cash Prize Table Tennis Tournament, 2013 organised by Thoubal District Table Tennis Association at Thoubal indoor stadium today.
Dinesh beat Th. Dharmendra 18-12, 11-9, 11-5, 11-6.
In the cadetsí category, Kenao Singh and S. Senerita Devi took the boys and girlsí titles respectively.
Chess meet: Kh. Sanjay Singh claimed the championís title of the Second State-Level Kodompokpi Chess Tournament, 2013, finishing with 18 points with a progressive score of 81. Rk. Apolosana Singh and N. Bankim also collected 18 points each but had varying progressive scores of 75 and 69 to settle for the second and third spots.
Varsity volleyball: Thoubal College claimed the championís title of the Manipur University Inter-College Menís Volleyball Tournament, 2013-14 at Thoubal indoor stadium today. The host team, Thoubal, thrashed MU PG Classes.
In the womenís event, DM College of Commerce defeated MU PG Classes.
L. Nirmal Singh of Thoubal College and Lomneichin Hongshing of DM College of Commerce were named best male and female players of the meet.
