Three boys were injured, one of them seriously, when an overloaded auto-rickshaw carrying schoolchildren turned turtle at Diagonal Road Crossing on Bistupur Main Road on Monday.
The incident occurred when the students of DAV Public School were returning home around 2.30pm .
Two of injured have been identified as Harshvardhan Kumar (15) and Satyam Kumar (15), both Class X students and residents of Burmamines and Golmuri, respectively. Identity of the third victim could not be known.
The trio were rushed to the emergency ward of Tata Main Hospital by their teacher, who happened to be passing by the mishap spot at that time. Doctors on emergency duty referred Harshvardhan to OPD, but admitted Satyam as he had sustained head injuries.
The third victim was administered first aid.
Eyewitnesses said that the vehicle was travelling speedily towards Ram Mandir when it took a turn at the crossing and overturned. “The auto-rickshaw was overloaded and was plying roughly,” said an eyewitness.
