Three decades after its closure, Dhanbad Sadar Hospital was revived on the Hirapur campus of PMCH with a new outpatient department (OPD) opening doors on Monday.
As many as 143 patients visited the heal hub on the first day.
Nine government doctors have been shunted from different blocks to man the OPD six days a week (barring Sunday) from 9am to 3pm, thanks to a prod by new health and family welfare minister Rajendra Prasad Singh. Three multi-purpose workers and nursing staff of the health department are assisting the doctors.
Civil surgeon Arun Kumar Sinha, who visited the hospital to supervise the OPD services, said: “Besides necessary equipment, we have the facility for different blood tests also.”
The OPD at SSLNT Hospital, which is also under the jurisdiction of PMCH, too started functioning from Monday.
