Around 500 residents of Kalubathan in Nirsa block of Dhanbad, around 40km from the district headquarters, sat on a dharna at the station on Monday, demanding that express trains should also stop there.
The residents, who are protesting since August 24, also demanded regularisation of the schedule of passenger trains. They threatened to sit on the tracks from August 31 onward, if their demands were not met.
“We have been demanding halt of trains like Patliputra Express, Dhanbad-Ranchi Intercity Express, Black Diamond Express and Coal Field Express at Kalubathan station. At present, we are forced to go to either Kumardubi or Dhanbad to catch a train to Ranchi and Calcutta,” said Ashok Mandal, a member of the divisional railway users’ consultative committee of Asansol division, Eastern Railway, under which Kalubathan falls.
ADRM A.K. Shukla said the commercial wing of the division would soon send a proposal to Calcutta headquarters, asking them to stop trains at Kalubathan after conducting a feasibility study.
