Jamshedpur, Aug. 24: The pool at JRD Tata Sports Complex here was bubbling with activities today as youngsters sporting colourful costumes took part in the 17th Inter-school ICSE/ISC Regional Swimming Championship.
Organised by Motilal Nehru Public School, the event saw 90 swimmers from 16 schools from Jharkhand and Bihar making a splash to win prizes.
While Loyola School stroked their way to victory with 63 points, Carmel Junior College had to be satisfied with the runner-up slot with only 33 points in its kitty.
Loyola also lapped individual honours as Karan Vijay Singh and Sagnik Roy walked home with the best swimmer awards in boys’ senior and junior categories, respectively.
Teammate Tulip Saha won the best swimmer trophy in senior girls’, while Carmel’s Bhavya Verma bagged the award in junior category.
Loyola started the day with Tulip taking home gold medal in the senior girls’ 100m frestyle in 1:26.12sec.
In senior eves’ 50m breaststroke, Tulip again booked the top slot by clocking 52.10sec. She proved to be the undisputed winner in 50m freestyle also.
In senior boys’ category, Karan Vijay Singh won gold in 100m freestyle by surging ahead in 1:16.69sec, whereas Vipul Singh of DAV (Patel Nagar) topped in 50m butterfly stroke.
Carmel’s Akash Mahanty booked the top slot in senior boys’ 50m breaststroke, while Karan excelled in 50m freestyle.
Among the junior girls, Carmel’s Bhavya Verma took home the yellow medal by finishing 50m butterfly race in 42.57sec. The championship was inaugurated by Jusco managing director Ashish Mathur. Managing director of Tata Pigments Prakash Sarode handed over the prizes.
