Hazaribagh, Aug. 24: Governor Syed Ahmed and chief minister Hemant Soren will jointly inaugurate the newly constructed buildings at Vinoba Bhave University (VBU) in Hazaribagh on Monday.
With the VBU administration receiving the official confirmation about the duo’s participation from Raj Bhavan and Project Building, respectively, preparations for the function are on in full swing on the university’s Sindoor campus, situated about 5km from the district headquarters.
Registrar S.P Sinha said: “The governor and chief minister have agreed to do the honours. Besides, state HRD minister Geetashree Oraon and energy minister Rajendra Singh will grace the occasion.”
Ahmed, who is the chancellor of all Jharkhand universities, along with Hemant, will inaugurate an administrative building, the commerce department, a girls hostel, a park and a branch of United bank of India on the varsity campus on August 26.
Of these, the three-storeyed administrative building will be of particular use. Once launched, it will provide major relief to not only university officials, but also students.
Since the university set up its permanent campus on Sindoor in 2000, VBU officials, including vice chancellor R.N. Bhagat, have been discharging their duties from makeshift offices at central library rooms.
Students have been the worst sufferers in the current scenario — the limited space hardly providing the ambience suitable for reading. Naturally, various students’ organisations have been long demanding that the offices be shifted to other buildings.
The administrative building, which has been set up at a cost of Rs 4 crore, had missed several deadlines. Construction had started way back in 2006 and was to be completed in 2008. VBU officials credited Bhagat, whose tenure ends on August 28, for ensuring that the administrative building was ready and also inaugurated before he leaves.
The hostel has been constructed at a cost of Rs 98.90 lakh and the commerce department building Rs 1.12 crore. The Rs 18-lakh park has come up in front of the guest house. The pond adjacent to it has been beautified.
