London: Jack Wilshere says he will be the next big-name player to leave Arsenal if the critics drive Arsene Wenger out of the club.
Arsenal fans turned on their manager last week for failing to make a significant signing this summer despite sitting on a large cash kitty.
There were also calls from supporters for the club to resist offering the Frenchman a new contract until a better assessment can be made of the team’s fortunes this season.
However, Wilshere, the England midfielder who’s widely seen as a future Arsenal captain, warned: “I want to win things with Arsenal and I want to be there in the future. But if the boss leaves, things could change.”
Wilshere, who signed a five-and-a-half-year contract last season, added: “Arsene Wenger has been there for so many years and he’s always delivered trophies.
“Okay, we’ve had a little dip in the last five or six years. But he’s a great manager and people who question his ability are ridiculous.
“Arsenal are always in my heart and by signing a deal for the next five years shows my commitment to them and their commitment to me. So at the moment, everything is good.”
