Calcutta: Joydeep Mukherjee has been named the coach of the Under-25 Bengal team. The 46-year-old former Bengal player signed on the dotted line on Thursday.
“It’s a big responsibility for me and I will try to live up to it. I have been associated with Bengal cricket for over two decades and now I hope to contribute towards its betterment,” Joydeep said on Friday.
Joydeep’s last prominent cricket assignment was as a member of the support staff of the Kolkata Knight Riders. He plans to put his IPL experience to good use. “Whatever I learnt during my association with KKR, I will definitely remember that while coaching the Bengal team,” he said.
He hopes to work in sync with former Bengal teammate Ashok Malhotra, who is the coach of the senior team. “My association with Ashok Malhotra goes a long way… We played together for the state and also at the club level,” he said.
