Shillong, Aug. 23: The bodies of three persons, who allegedly killed themselves inside two police stations in Meghalaya, have been found since last evening.
West Jaintia Hills deputy commissioner Peter S. Dkhar today appointed additional district magistrate D.P Kharsati to conduct an inquiry into the death of Kitbok Kassar, 24, of Mynthong, Jowai, and Daphah Rupon, 26, of Salaroh, Jowai, who were found dead inside a police lock-up in Jowai this morning.
The additional district magistrate will probe the facts and circumstances leading to the deaths and submit a detailed inquiry report within a week.
Sources informed that the bodies, whose necks were hung to the metal gate of the cell, were first discovered by their friend around 1:30am.
The duo, along with their friend, were arrested on August 20 in connection with a theft case, and a local court had remanded them in three-day police custody.
Today the trio were supposed to be re-produced in court.
In a separate incident, Noresh Koch allegedly committed suicide inside Tura police station lock-up last evening. Koch was caught in a theft case.
Preliminary reports indicate that the accused went inside the toilet located within the confines of his cell at the police station. When he failed to come out, police personnel detached the cell door and found Koch’s lifeless body.
