Guwahati, Aug. 23: Nazia Ahmed and Janashree Saikia today made it to the semi-finals of the under-14 girls’ event in the 20th all-Guwahati junior doubles tennis championship under way at North East Tennis Foundation courts here.
Nazia and Janashree prevailed over Arleen Kakoti and Justin Buragohain 4-1, 4-1 in the quarter-finals played today.
The other pairs who joined the duo include Tanaya Kashyap and Bhairavi D. Bharali, Annie Theousen and Shivangi R. Baruah and that of Eva Raj Sah and Natasha Baruah.
Tanaya and Bhairavi clinched a 4-1, 5-4 (3) victory against Karman Sainai and Bushma Khan, Annie and Shivangi overcame Nimisha Patra and Chandrani Thakuria 4-1, 2-4, 10-8 and Eva and Natasha floored Nihad Omar and Nitisha Baryah 4-1, 4-1.
On the under-14 boys’ courts, Satyam Bora and Partha P. Bora eased past Ayushman Buragohain and Rhythm Baruah 4-1, 4-0 to book a semi-final berth along with the duo of Arith Bhuyan and Debashis Medhi and Jugal Baruah and Sh. Md Iftikhar.
Arith and Debashis got the better of Sankalp Hazarika and Abhishek Sahani 4-2, 4-2 while Jugal and Iftikhar defeated Abhinav Bharali and Siddharth Langthasa 4-1, 4-1 in the quarter-final encounters. The boys’ under-12 courts saw Kritanta Sarma and Anuranan Choudhary making it to the semi-finals, along with the pairs of Spondon Goswami and Prateek Hazarika and Hripkob Bora and Adarsh Sinha.
Kritanta and Anuranan had little trouble overcoming Bhaniman R. Das and Raktav Dutta 4-2, 4-2 while Spondon and Prateek overcame Chandril Mahanta and Raghu Pratap 5-4(4), 4-2 and Hripkob and Adarsh handed a 4-1, 5-4 (5) defeat to Abhinav Bharali and Siddharth Langthasa.
