The Ranchi chapter of Sports Authority of India (SAI) on Friday announced that a national-level football tournament of SAI clubs across the country would kick off at Bi-rsa Munda Football Stadium in Morabadi from Sunday.
Director and in-charge of SAI (Ranchi) S.K. Verma said that Under-17 boys from more than 21 states would participate in the All-India Inter-Regional Football Tournament.
“The teams have been divided into eight groups zone-wise. The tournament will be played in knockout format, with the winner of each match moving up. The winner of each group will play the quarter-finals,” Verma said, addressing a news conference in Ranchi on Friday.
The tournament will conclude on August 29.
“Sports secretary Vandana Dadel has given her consent to inaugurate the meet, while our regional director S. Bhatnagar and state sports director Ashok Kumar will be special guests,” Verma said.
Game and technical committees have been formed for conducting the meet smoothly. “The groundwork has been done and officials have been entrusted with responsibilities to take care of visiting players,” the SAI official said.
Accommodation will be provided at dormitories inside Birsa Munda Football Stadium, where all the matches will be played.
