Patna, Aug. 23: An Uttar Pradesh resident was arrested from Sasaram in Rohtas today on the charge of supplying fake forensic test reports to courts and helping defendants obtain bail in NDPS Act cases.
Dilip Kumar (30), hailing from Sonbhadra district in eastern UP, had gone into hiding ever since the racket surfaced in 2010. A case was lodged against Kumar and five others at the Dehri police station in Rohtas district.
A team comprising two sub-inspectors attached with the economic offences unit (EOU) was sent to Sasaram. The team arrested Kumar and produced him in Sasaram court, which remanded him in judicial custody for two weeks. During interrogation, Kumar admitted that fake forensic science laboratory reports declaring heroin as ash and marijuana (ganja) as bhang were submitted to the court to obtain bail of the accused booked under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS).
Kumar (30) told interrogators that the fake reports were sent to the courts with the help of lower rank employees of the state forensic science laboratory in Patna. We used to pay a fixed amount to the laboratory staff to dispatch the fake reports to the courts concerned, a police officer quoted Kumar as saying.
Sasaram police station house officer Ramesh Kumar Singh said: A police team from Patna came to Sasaram and sought assistance in apprehending the accused evading arrest in a NDPS Act case. He was handed over to the team.
