Guwahati, Aug. 22: Vibgyor Vehicles Limited, the automobile wing of Calcutta-based Vibgyor Group, aims to sell 1,000 three-wheelers in the Northeast by the year-end.
The company recently launched a variety of three wheelers — Vibgyor (passenger) auto, Vibgyor cargo (pick-up van) and Vibgyor (delivery) van — in Assam and hopes to make its presence felt in the region.
“The Northeast has a great potential in the three-wheeler commercial vehicle segment in the rural areas. We are aiming to sell 1,000 vehicles in the next three months for which we are strengthening our dealer network,” Vibgyor Vehicles CEO Dibakar Chakraborty told The Telegraph.
Vibgyor Vehicles is one of the strongest arms of Vibgyor Group of Companies and has a turnover of Rs 18 crore.
The official said the company would have around 12 dealers in the Northeast, a majority of whom would be in Assam.
India has the largest three-wheelers’ market, which is over four decades old and the fifth largest commercial vehicle market in the world.
“The three-wheelers have not only contributed significantly towards solving day-to-day commuting problems of a large segment of population, especially in the rural areas, across the country but has also proved to be a cheap and convenient mode of transportation of goods. This industry has a very strong potential of employment generation in many direct and indirect ways,” he said.
The demand-supply gap in the three-wheeler commercial vehicles segment in the country ranges between 10-12 per cent and there is an opportunity for new products in this segment.
Piaggio Vehicles Pvt Ltd and Atul Auto have a good presence in three-wheeler commercial vehicles’ market in the Northeast.
On facing competition, Chakraborty said it was a healthy competition with strong players. “Our products are good and we hope to make a good impact,” he added.
The vehicles are manufactured in technical collaboration with Pashupati Vehicles at Sonepat in Haryana.
The company commenced its journey in April 2009 with the launch of two-wheelers and has expanded its activities across the country.
It decided to enter into the three-wheeler commercial vehicle manufacturing with the launch of three variants of vehicles in February.
