A CISF constable drank pesticide to end her life at her estranged husband’s quarters in Sector VIII of Bokaro steel city on Tuesday.
Anju Devi (32), who was posted at Birsa Munda Airport in Ranchi, was rushed to Bokaro General Hospital, but she breathed her last around 10pm, after battling death for 10 hours.
The young woman was troubled by domestic problems. She had tried to make her marriage work with husband Golak Kumar Mahto, an employee of Bokaro Steel. She had not succeeded and the couple had divorced in June.
Sources said the couple had married in 2004 after a courtship of two years. They have a seven-year-old son. Problems had started in 2008 after Anju’s job took her to Ranchi.
According to police, Anju came to Bokaro on Tuesday morning and went straight to Mahto’s house. She tried to persuade him to take her back, but the latter refused. Unable to bear continued rejection, she drank pesticide in front of him and then locked herself in a room on the terrace.
Mahto and his family members called up Sector IX police station. Anju Devi was then taken to hospital, but it was too late.
Officer-in-charge of Sector IX police station Rajesh Kumar said that the body had been sent for post-mortem and they had registered a case of unnatural death. “Primarily, it is a case of suicide over domestic tiff, but we will investigate other angles too,” Kumar added.
