Guwahati, Aug. 20: Sunrise Athletic Club defeated Dynamo Club 3-1 to consolidate their position in the Abhishek Motors RG Baruah Trophy Guwahati Super Division Football League at the first turf of Nehru Stadium here today.
It was invariably a battle of nerves that Sunrise clinched with precision in the execution of moves they initiated.
Foreign recruit Clearance Carter drew first blood with a 37th minute left-footer to convert a free kick by Rojit Singh from the left flank.
Though Sunrise made repeated inroads into the opponent’s territory at quick intervals, the first half ended in the solitary goal lead for the side.
Into the second session, Dynamo started aggressively and managed to push the opponents onto the back foot.
Their efforts yielded in African recruit skipper Kingsley Eze scoring the equaliser with a 62nd minute goal.
The parity in the scoreline was, however, shortlived as Kailash Gogoi put Sunrise ahead just two minutes later by heading in a Lanin Angom pass. Trailing again, the Dynamo men launched a series of all out attacks and Sunrise striker Camara took the opportunity to pump in another goal to consolidate the lead for his side in the 80th minute.
A Division League: Gauhati Town Club humiliated Sports Authority of India 10-0 in a one-sided encounter of the Jibeswar Goswami Guwahati first division league in the second turf of the same ground today.
Striker Festus Onoriode opened the floodgates for GTC with a ninth-minute goal and pumped in two more in the 33rd and 39th minutes. John Nanna also fired in four goals in the 13th, 36th, 65th and 85th minutes.
Kamran Farooque, Janap Deori and Rahul Das fired in one goal each in the 63rd, 68th and 73rd minutes respectively.
