Chennai: The Cricket Association of Bengal XI (CAB XI) slumped to their second defeat in as many matches in the All India Buchi Babu Cricket tournament, here, on Monday.
In the Group A tie, Andhra Cricket Association XI (ACA XI) notched up an easy 76-run win over CAB XI to secure a quarter final berth alongside Tamil Nadu Cricket Association XI (TNCA XI) and its President’s XI side.
In reply to ACA XI’s 303, Bengal were shot out for 227 in 62 overs with GVS Prasad (six for 66) taking the bulk of the wickets. For CAB XI, Anustup Majumdar top-scored with 53, but found hardly any support from the rest of the batsmen. Abhimanyu Easwaran (43) and Arnab Nandi (34) got good starts only to give them away, much to the joy of the rival bowlers.
In Group B, TNCA XI beat Tripura Cricket Association XI (TCA XI) by five wickets. Having dismissed TCA XI for 221, TNCA XI got the required runs in 86.1 overs, with K. Bharath Shankar hitting an unbeaten 133.
In Group D, the TNCA President’s XI hammered Kerala Cricket Association XI (KCA XI) by 152 runs. In reply to TNCA President’s XI’s 371 for seven, KCA XI were bowled out for 219 with Malolan Rangarajan finishing a five-wicket haul (five for 63).
In another Group D encounter, pacer Abu Nechim Ahmed, with figures four for 40, led Assam Cricket Association XI to a comprehensive 99-run win over Baroda Cricket Association XI. In pursuit of Assam Cricket Association XI's 224, their Baroda counterparts were skittled out for 115 in 62.5 overs. (AGENCIES)
