Kokrajhar, Aug. 19: Arsonists attacked and torched the houses of some non-Bodo leaders today for extending support to the Bodoland Peoples’ Front (BPF) on “Bodoland”.
Activists, said to be belonging to AKRSU (Biswajit Ray), attacked the house of Niren Roy, president of All BTC Koch Rajbongshi Sanmilani and a BPF leader, at Kajalgaon in Chirang district at 11am.
Sources said a mob of about a hundred people vandalized Roy’s house, a vehicle belonging to him and assaulted him, forcing the police, who arrived later at the spot, to resort to a lathicharge.
Activists of All Bodoland Minority Students’ Union attacked and torched the houses of two Religious Minority Council leaders, its Kokrajhar district secretary Ashraf Ali and headman of Masjid Para village in Salakati Jainal Abedin, at Salakati in Kokrajhar. They shouted slogans against RMC leaders and burnt their effigies for supporting the BPF’s demand for Bodoland.
BPF president and BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary condemned the attacks and appealed for peace and harmony.
