Education minister Bratya Basu shook hands with Presidency mentor group chairman Sugata Bose, exchanged pleasantries and declared on Monday they were “a big, happy family”. At a programme to mark 75 years of the laying of the foundation stone for Mahajati Sadan on CR Avenue, Harvard history professor Bose said the mentor group and the minister had no differences and had been working in close co-operation.
Only a few weeks ago, the mentor group and a section of the government had seemed to be on a collision course when the higher education department suddenly decided to cut short VC Malabika Sarkar’s term. She got an extension following the chancellor’s intervention.
When Bose was asked on Monday if the differences had been ironed out, minister Basu said: “We are now one big, happy family.”
Basu went up to Bose, whose granduncle Subhas Chandra Bose had laid the stone, and greeted him on the dais.
