Calcutta: Delhi’s Sundeep Gulati successfully defended his title in the National 8-Ball Pool Championship at Spring Club on Wednesday.
Gulati defeated Haryana’s Divya Sharma 9-6 in the summit clash. Gulati was in terrific form and did not let go any chances that came his way.
The match began with Sharma winning the first rack but Gulati levelled by winning the next rack and kept winning subsequently to gain the lead. Gulati maintained the lead throughout thereafter. Sharma, however, tried to come at par but Gulati maintained his consistency.
In the semi-finals, Gulati beat local challenger Shyam Jagtiani 8-5 while Divya edged past Lalrina Renthlei 8-7 in the decider rack.
“I was always confident of winning the 8-Ball meet. It's almost as if I knew I would win it,” he said. “My aim now is to win the 9-Ball Pool. Finishing first there would be an ideal preparation before the 9-Ball Pool World Championship in Doha,” he added.
