Guwahati, Aug. 14: Dynamo Club gained three vital points after edging past Navajyoti Club 1-0 in a fourth-round encounter of the Abhishek Motors R.G. Baruah Super Division football league organised by the Guwahati Sports Association on the first turf of Nehru Stadium here today.
Dynamo men began on an attacking note to score in just the second minute. Skipper Onyeama Francis was on target after he connected a centre pass by Rabi Adhikari from inside the box.
However, despite trailing 0-1, it was Navajyoti who had the upper hand throughout the match with Dynamo impressive only at times. In the 18th minute, a long ranger by Navajyoti’s Jessy Lalruatpuia sailed over the bar while three minutes later Lalduhawla was a tad erratic with his shot at the goal off a pass from the lanky Ishak Sangma.
After the lemon break, Navajyoti did everything right but score. In the 47th minute, Jessy Vanlalmuana started the onslaught but again shot over the crosspiece off a pass by Jeherul Islam.
In the 66th minute, it was Lalduhawla’s turn again but Dynamo goalkeeper Mantu Mallick was up to his task. A minute later, Navajyoti halfback K. Lalchhanhima attempted a shot that sailed over the bar.
Navajyoti tried hard to draw parity, with Hari Prasad Gogoi and Ishak heading two off floaters in the 72nd and 77th minutes respectively, but the scoreline remained the same.
Dynamo’s Deepak Roy attempted a long ranger in the 78th minute with the ball sailing over. But thereafter, Dynamo, which had bolstered its defence with substitute Kingsley Eze taking the field in the middle of the second half, could not create any more chances.
In the match of the Jibeswar Goswami A Division football league played on the second turf of Nehru Stadium, Gauhati Town Club came back from a goal behind to defeat City Police 3-1.
