Calcutta: IM Diptayan Ghosh beat third seed Arvindh Chithambaram to join Murali Karthikeyan and B. Kumaran on the top spot at the end of Round X of the National Sub-junior Under-15 Chess Championship, on Tuesday.
Arvindh had Ruy Lopez to take control over the central position before Diptayan neutralised proceedings.
In the middle game, Diptayan had good control with a three-pawn advantage before sealing the issue in the end game.
Murali split point with seventh seed Sidhant Mohapatra after a few moves, while Kumaran too joined the leaders with a hard fought win over Harsha Bharathakoti.
In the girls’ section, second seed GK Monnisha registered a fine win over Riya Savant to move into sole lead.
Riya, in the previous round made a major upset by beating M. Mahalakshmi, but could not match her opponent on Tuesday.
