Calcutta: Local challenger Shyam Jagtiani advanced to the semi-finals of the 8-ball section of Big Bazaar National 8-ball & 9-ball Pool Championships, thrashing junior national snooker champion Malkeet Singh 8-3 at the Spring Club, here on Tuesday.
This is the first time that Jagtiani have reached the semis of any national pool championships. In the pre-quarters, he had defeated Aayush Kumar of Punjab 7-5 and reigning 9-ball national champion Rafath Habib 7-4 in the last-32 stage.

However, Ankit failed to replicate the success in the pre-quarter final and lost 2-7 to Lalrina Renthlei.
