Imphal, Aug. 13: Huyen Langlon Thang Ta Academy, Samurou claimed the champion’s title, bagging 36 medals, including 19 gold, in the 24th State Thang Ta Championship which concluded at Khuman Lampak indoor stadium today.
They finished with 19 gold, eight silver and nine bronze medals for 137 points for the top slot while Huyen Langlon Thang Ta Academy, Yumnam Huidrom, got the runners-up title with 16 gold, seven silver and six bronze medals, picking up 113 points. Pahulasi Kwakeithel claimed the third spot with nine gold, eight silver and eight bronze medals.
Huidrom Manganleiba Meitei of Huyen Langlon Thang Ta Academy, Yumnam Huidrom and Ahongbam Purnimashi Devi of Moirang Khunou were adjudged the Best Fighters in the boys and girls’ category respectively.
On the last day, HLTA Samurou came up with five gold medals through M. Ranjita Devi in the senior girls’ Thang Haibi, H. Bevika Chanu in sub-junior girls’ Thanglon, Sh. Bishorjit in junior boys Thanglon, H. Rebita Devi in junior girls’ Thanglon and A. Sanatombi Chanu in the senior girls’ Thanglon fetched a gold medal each.
HLTA Yumnam Huidrom also came up with three gold medals through Y. Khagemba Singh in the senior boys’ Thanglon, O. Shankar Singh in junior boys’ Taron and O. Netajit Singh in the senior boys’ Taron event.
The EKVTA Nongmeibung units bagged three gold medals with Kh. Lamnganba claiming the gold in the sub-junior boys Taron, while Kh. Jeshni Chanu in the sub-junior girls Taron and Kh. Suranjit Khaba in the sub-junior Thang Haiba event also bagged a gold medal each.
Altogether 363 players, along with 49 officials, participated in the championship.
