Guwahati, Aug. 11: Former champions Green Valley Sports Club made amends for their lacklustre show in the previous match, to decimate Dynamo Club 2-0 in the Abhishek Motors RG Baruah Super Division football league organised by the Guwahati Sports Association at Nehru Stadium here today.
The match began on an even note but saw Green Valley gain the upper hand as it progressed.
In the 16th minute, striker Ronal Singh shot one straight to Green Valley custodian Sukanta Roy’s hands off a pass from Oneybi Nandos Ogbonna.
Nine minutes later, Green Valley skipper Michael Lucky Kelechuke was off target as he tried to score off a corner kick by Gaiham Rongmei.
Green Valley’s moment came in the 37th minute, when midfielder A. Ronald Singh executed a superb right footer from about 20 yards into the corner of the net off a Jenga pass, with Dynamo goalkeeper stranded in the middle.
In the second minute of the second half, Dynamo wasted no time to attack but Ronal Singh could not get past an alert Nnamdi Jonathan in a goalmouth melee with the Green Valley stopper finally clearing the ball to safety.
Green Valley was quick to counter but Kelechuke once again was erratic in his shooting, getting one way over the crosspiece.
Green Valley, thereafter, had the match in their grip but was still looking for the second goal, which they got in the 54th minute.
Kelechuke finally converted one off a rebound from the goalkeeper who couldn’t gather a shot at goal by substitute Soyao Tangkhul off a Gaihan pass.
In the Jibeswar Goswami A Division football, Ganga Sports Club edged past Gauhati Town Club 1-0.
Green Valley had another opportunity in injury time when the relatively off-colour Sanjeeva Rongpi failed to connect off a Ronald Singh centre.
Tomorrow, Assam Police Blues will lock horns with FCI Sports Club.
