Srinagar, Aug. 10: Indian and Pakistani troops traded gunfire in the Poonch sector in a nightlong fusillade that kept the Line of Control on edge, days after five Indian soldiers were killed in a cross-border raid.
An army officer said Pakistani troops fired around 7,000 rounds but the Indian side did not suffer any casualties. The firing started at 10.20pm and lasted till 4.30 this morning.
In Delhi, the army’s additional director general of public information tweeted: “Pakistan opened fire in Poonch sector last night using automatics, mortars etc. Befitting Response by own troops.”
