Guwahati, Aug. 7: Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, director of films such as Rang De Basanti and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, will be in the city on August 25 to flag off a half-marathon organised by the students of IIT Guwahati.
The half-marathon is part of the 15th edition of the IIT’s annual techno-management festival — Techniche.
This year, the four-day event will be held from August 29 to September 1.
The slogan of the marathon is “Run for a better tomorrow.”
The organisers are hopeful that the marathon will attract people from all walks of life who are concerned about building a better future.
“This year the half-marathon will start from Sonaram School at Bharalumukh. Professionals will compete in the 21km run. The public can take part in a 6km run. Artists who might not have physical capacity to run the 6km can participate in a painting competition,” an organiser said.
The half-marathon was started for the first time in 2009.
The organisers have requested willing participants to register their names online free of cost.
“This edition will be the 5th incarnation of the running event. This year, under the umbrella of Sociothon, our social campaign initiative, we plan to do our best to make a difference to society by lending a helping hand wherever we can,” an organiser said.
“The half-marathon will kick off the 15th edition of Techniche. It is the annual techno-management festival of the institution where several enterprising and riveting events line up,” the organiser said.
