Kohima, Aug. 6: The Network of Mokokchung District People Living With HIV/AIDS has written a letter to the legislators’ forum on HIV/AIDS to invest in intervention programmes.
Mokokchung network president T. Temsu Jamir said the forum should invest in intervention programmes for people living with HIV/AIDS like support and treatment, effective referral system and proper counselling through trained outreach workers.
“The network has been facing shortage of manpower with only one outreach worker for six ranges under Mokokchung district. The district has 10 legislators and if they can invest a total of Rs 5 lakh from their area development funds, it would go a long way in the welfare of people living with HIV/AIDS,” the letter said.
Jamir said the forum has conducted seven to eight awareness programmes in the district in the last five to six years but they have had little impact.
He also asked the forum to appoint an outreach worker each of the six ranges and a monitoring/evaluator person to keep track of their activities.
The Network of Mokokchung District People Living With HIV/AIDS, a not-for-profit organisation, was formed on November 30, 2006, to work for the uplift of people living with HIV/AIDS in the district.
Since its inception, the network has been working with HIV-positive people to improve their overall quality of life and give a humane face to the pandemic.
