Patna, Aug. 6: A middle-aged man was burnt to death allegedly by his neighbours following a dispute over a plot of land at Mansurpur Halaiya village in Vaishali district, around 40km north of Patna.
The victim, Mohammad Rafiq, was set on fire allegedly following a quarrel with neighbours Mohammad Jafar Alam and his father, Habibullah, around Sunday midnight. He was rushed to a private nursing home in Patna, where he succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday.
Katahara police outpost station house officer (SHO) Dhruv Kumar said Rafiq told the police that both the accused had threatened him with dire consequences. “The accused poured petrol on Rafiq and set him on fire,” the SHO quoted Rafiq as saying.
The victim had an old dispute with Habibullah over a plot. Initially, they tried to settle the dispute at the panchayat but in futile. The SHO said Rafiq toiled on his agricultural land, which he had got as share in the ancestral property. The accused fled following the incident. “A team has been set up to apprehend the accused at the earliest,” the SHO added.
Vaishali superintendent of police Suresh Prasad Choudhary said raids were conducted at suspected hideouts to nab the accused.
