Guwahati, Aug. 5: A hattrick by striker Anup Rabha powered Chaygaon Janajatiya Sports Club to a convincing 5-0 win over Damkan College, Beltola in the second match of the 5th Northeast prize-money football tournament at Sarusajai sports complex here today.
Chaygaon dominated the match throughout, riding on Rabha’s deft skills, as they struck first blood in the 26th minute.
Rabha went on to add two more goals in the second half, striking in the 48th and 61st minutes to give his team a 3-0 lead. Four minutes later, Pranjal Rabha sprinkled more salt on the opposition’s wounds, getting one past the goalkeeper off a brilliant free kick.
Down 0-4, Damkan was all at sea, apparently going through the motions as they never looked like reducing the margin of defeat.
Chaygaon scored their fifth goal in the 69th minute, with Gukul Rabha making no mistake as he struck the net with relative ease to seal the match.
Tomorrow, Bangthaigaon Football Club will clash against Rainbow Football Club, Udalbakra in the third match of the tournament.
The Brihattar Beltola Krira Bikash Samitee is organising the knockout meet where 32 teams, including four from Meghalaya, are taking part. The final will be held on September 15.
The champions will be richer by Rs 51,000, along with the Joyram Medhi Trophy.
The runners-up team will take home Rs 25,000, along with the Lagun Kro Trophy.
Assam bagged titles in both the senior and sub-junior categories of the 11th Senior National Soccer-7 championship that concluded at Judges Field late on Sunday evening.
In the finals of the seven-a-side meet, Assam edged past Madhya Pradesh 1-0 in the senior group and won by an identical margin against Jharkhand in the sub-junior category.
