South Africa captain AB de Villiers was a relieved man after his side secured a semi-final berth in the Champions Trophy. The Proteas managed to edge out West Indies via the Duckworth/Lewis method on Friday after their match was called off due to rain.
The following are excerpts
AB de Villiers: I feel bad for West Indies, but this is part of the game. We have also been on the losing side of things like this a lot of times before. Luck was on our side. The par score was on the scoreboard all the time, and it was always there in the back of our minds that rains might interrupt the match. We were aware of the equation. Bowling was difficult in such circumstances. We needed to be calm and have a grip on the proceedings. And we are happy that we were able to do that.
Dwayne Bravo: Yes, we are obviously disappointed. But, I must congratulate South Africa for making it to the semi-finals. However, both the teams should get a pat on the shoulder. I always believed that we have a great match on hand, and the way it ended was really unfortunate. We were hoping that we could get back to the field, but the rains didn’t stop. The umpires have a job to do and they did it to the best of their ability.
