London: Essex recorded their lowest ever team total after they were bowled out for just 20 in their county championship game against Lancashire at Chelmsford.
Lancashire openers Glen Chapple and Kyle Hogg took five and four wickets respectively, as Essex recorded a remarkable six ducks on the way to defeat by an innings and 105 runs.
Only Jaik Mickelburgh reached double figures on a miserable day for Essex who were dismissed within 15 overs and recorded the lowest first class score in 30 years.
Surprisingly, 20 is only the joint sixth lowest score in county championship history and is actually five more than Hampshire managed in 1922 when they went on to beat Warwickshire.
Northamptonshire hold the unfortunate record of achieving the lowest ever team score, after they were bowled out for 12 against Gloucestershire 106 years ago. The comprehensive defeat means Essex missed their chance to move into the top three at the expense of Worcestershire.
