The alleged threat issued to Khagaria district education officer Shyam Babu Ram by former legislator Ranbir Yadav could snowball into a major controversy following the decision of the Bihar Administrative Service Association members to resort to agitation if action is not initiated against the “tainted” leader.
Ranbir, who had earlier served life term in connection with the Lakshmipur Taufir diara carnage of 1985 in which nine persons were killed and houses of 200 were burnt, is the husband of JD(U) Khagaria MLA Poonam Devi. His second wife, Krishna Yadav, is the chairperson of Khagaria district board.
The Khagaria district unit of the Bihar Administrative Service Association held an urgent meeting on Tuesday and demanded legal action against the former MLA for threatening the officer. The association also demanded security for Ram.
Rehman said initially the association members would boycott the official functions of Devi and Krishna. “We have already given an ultimatum to the district magistrate asking him to take action against the accused within 15 days. If the district magistrate fails to take action, the association members would go on mass casual leave,” he said.
On Monday, Ranbir and his two wives reportedly reached the office of district magistrate Parwez Alam and inquired about a file with the merit list of applicants for contractual teaching jobs in government schools.
When education officer Ram said he had no clue about it, Ranbir and his two wives abused and threatened him.
