Sonam’s red-carpet rules

It’s May. Time to Cannes. t2 chats with India’s most famous face of fashion as she readies for her hat-trick appearance on the Cannes red carpet...

Two years at the world’s most glam red carpet. Which is your favourite red-carpet look so far?

The Jean Paul Gaultier outfit I wore in my first year at Cannes.

And someone else’s you liked a lot?

Diane Kruger. Last year every single look of hers was spectacular.

Your fave make-up look at Cannes?

Hmm. I wore red lips with my Alexander McQueen last year. I love that look.

A little birdie told us about something cooking at Anamika’s for you this year...

Ha ha! Something is always cooking for me at Anamika’s. You know my loyalty lies towards her, don’t you? She is the best designer in the country. She’s most creative, she’s a genius. We are forever collaborating.

[Needless to say, watch this space for more!]

Are you ever tempted to wear the sari at Cannes?

I’m always tempted!

Then why haven’t we seen one yet?

Wait and watch! Also, this is only the third time ya.

What’s your red-carpet nightmare?

Transparency. And wrong underwear.

Fave red-carpet Indian designer?

Anamika Khanna.

Fave red-carpet international designer?

Jean Paul Gaultier.

What’s the best thing about being a L’Oreal girl — apart from going to Cannes?!

I get to use their make-up products. Also, the fact that I get to create these beautiful looks with them.

Make-up wish list right now?

The new L’Oreal nail polishes are really nice. Their gold nail stickers are amazing, I am forever calling them to send me some! I love that they are so reasonably priced. And my fave lipstick is Pink Passion. [Takes a moment to ask someone if it’s available in Calcutta if t2 readers want to go grab it! So, is it? Yes!]

As a red-carpet veteran, what’s your advice to max the photo-ops?

Just feel confident, feel beautiful, smile ear to ear, be happy and even the most ridiculous outfit will look ah-mazing!
