Who is he?
The 25-year-old American electro-dubstep artiste (born Sonny John Moore) has become the heart-throb of nightclubs on both sides of the Atlantic. This guy’s wub-wub bass (a common dubstep sound) is a killer.
Why we talkin’ about Skrillex?
The Grammy-winning (2012 and ’13) sensation has breathed life into the unapologetic Hollywood flick Spring Breakers (directed by Harmony Korine) and its eye-candy cast, led by “Bieber breaker” Selena Gomez. It has all that any hormone-raging teenager pants for –– beachy babes, innocence-shattering guys, substance abuse and woozy Skrillex gang-bang muzik!
Not enough, ye thinks?! A worthy successor to David Beckham’s famous-infamous cornrows is Skrillex’s partly-shaved hairstyle. It’s a rage among A-listers –– Avril Lavigne, Milla Jovovich, Ke$ha, Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, Cassie Ventura… Hell what, even Justin Bieber!
Music, music… is he any good?
Remember Nero? Not the Rome-burning fiddler dude but the London trio of Dan Stephens, Joe Ray and Alana Watson who combine house and trance. He is in their category. His is a mashup of heavy bass, orchestral bits and pioneering eletronic artiste Jean Michel Jarre sounds. A good example of this can be found on the track Ruffneck. He is a biggie on YouTube, SoundCloud and at nightclubs.
Early days He was spotted by Deadmau5, whose label (mau5trap) released his second EP. And then came remixes for Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga and The Black Eyed Peas.
Hear, hear EDM has reached a plateau with every second artiste sounding the same. But the masters of the genre, namely Daft Punk, consider Skrillex an exception. While promoting their new album Random Access Memories (2013), Daft Punk said: “Skrillex has been successful because he has a recognisable sound: You hear a dubstep song, even if it’s not him, you think it’s him.”
His label OWSLA has some of the best hip-hop and techno artistes, like Birdy Nam Nam, Koan Sound, The M Machine and Hundred Waters.

Shave off part of your locks and make a floppy fringe with the rest. It’s up to you how you wear the hair near the nape of the neck.
His EP Bangarang has beaten The Chemical Brothers at this year’s Grammy. The man’s other popular EP is Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites, which won two Grammys in 2012 and established him in the nightclub scene.
More of Skrilly

Finally, don’t try to find meaning to the name Skrillex. As a teenager, he was also called Skrilly.
