Chidi set to start

Barisic

Calcutta: Like a true professional side, Kingfisher East Bengal will try to erase the disappointing IFA Shield final loss from their minds and focus on resuming the I-League campaign when they host Air India on Saturday, at the Kalyani Stadium.

Slotted to play a host of matches for the past couple of weeks, East Bengal have just gone about with their job instead of cribbing about the schedule.

While the form of the team should please coach Trevor James Morgan, what would irk him is the 2.00pm kick-off time.

The current scenario, though, could well have been a far tighter one if East Bengal were to face any of the top-rung sides, instead of the lowly placed Air India.

Besides, Uga Okpara’s illness has added to East Bengal’s concerns over their defence, which will also miss injured stopperback Arnab Mondal. “Uga couldn’t attend today’s training session because of stomach problems. I need to talk to him tomorrow morning to see if he’s fit to take the field,” Morgan said.

A team source, however, informed that the Nigerian would accompany the team to Kalyani. Striker Edeh Chidi’s expected return would certainly boost East Bengal.

Birthday boy Andrew Barisic may come in as a substitute.
