Golaghat in trouble

Nuruddin trophy

Guwahati, March 22: Golaghat were trailing by 53 runs with five wickets in hand against Bongaigaon in a Group A league match of the Nuruddin Ahmed Trophy senior inter-district elite group cricket tournament at Barsapara Cricket Stadium here today.

In the two-day match that started after lunch this afternoon following overnight showers, Bongaigaon, put in to bat, were bundled out for 96 in 41.1 overs.

In reply, Golaghat were 43 for five in 21.4 overs when stumps were drawn for the first day.

Gulzar Ali topscored for Bongaigaon with 17 (4x1) while teammates Jitender Singh (16) and Kiran Parshipalli (13, 4x1) were the other notable scorers for the side. Himangshu Dutta and Pranjal Saikia of Golaghat shared three wickets each conceding 20 runs each while Ali Akbar chipped in with two for 17.

Golaghat, however, were reduced to 43 for five at close. Diku Chan was batting on 12 (4x2) while Kulen Hazarika (11, 4x2) was the only other batsman from the side to reach double figures.

Jyotiprasad Thakuria of Bongaigaon served early blows to the Golaghat innings to return with the figures of three for 18. Bikash Keshri and Gulzar Ali picked up a wicket each.

Judo trials

The All Assam Judo Association will organise a selection trial here on Sunday to select the state team for the Northeast games to be held in Imphal from April 8 to 11.
