MP yanks off mike

New Delhi, March 22: An AIADMK Rajya Sabha MP wrenched microphones off the chairperson’s table while speaking for Lankan Tamils today and was warned “not to behave like animals”.

V. Maitreyan’s act prompted a House official to say the ruckus was unlike anything he’d seen in his 20 years of service. The scenes also revived memories of a 1997 Uttar Pradesh Assembly fracas when microphones were flung like missiles by rival MLAs.

Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury, who was in the chair, adjourned the House till April 22 and asked Maitreyan not to behave “like animals”. Maitreyan said the incident occurred because of the “insensitivity” of the presiding officer.
